TOPSHAM — Omer “Tulip” Ouellette, 88, of Topsham, died Sunday at Mid Coast Senior Health Center, in Brunswick.
He was born in Brunswick on January 15, 1925, a son of Cyprien and Marieanne Plourde Ouellette. He graduated from St. John’s School in Brunswick with the class of 1940, and attended Brunswick High School.
On May 28, 1949, he married Priscille Lebel at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Ouellette worked as a ship fitter at Bath Iron Works, retiring in 1990. He also was manager at the Bowling Bowl in Brunswick for 35 years.
He was a track official at Bowdoin College for 30 years and enjoyed all sports, including swimming.
Ouellette was a communicant of All Saint’s Parish, St. John the Baptist Church, and a fourth-degree member of the Sekenger Council #1947 Knights of Columbus, in Brunswick.
He is predeceased by three sisters, Claire, Simonne and Cecile, and two brothers, Philip and Robert Ouellette.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years Priscille Ouellette, of Topsham; three sons, Ronald Ouellette and his wife Maureen, of Townsend, Mass.; Gerard Ouellette and his wife Doris, of Topsham, and John Paul Ouellette and his wife Melissa, of Topsham; a daughter, Julie Leach and her husband Gary, of Westborough, Mass.; a brother, Anthony Ouellette, of Topsham; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Ouellette, of Brunswick; eight grandchildren, Mark, David, Adam, Brian and Amelia Ouellette, and Laurina, Allison and Stephanie Leach; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday at All Saint’s Parish, St. John the Baptist Church, in Brunswick, followed by burial in St. John’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Tulip’s memory to St. John’s Catholic School Scholarship Fund, 39 Pleasant St., Brunswick.
