SCARBOROUGH — Olive (Libby) Brackett, 81, died unexpectedly Jan. 11 at her Scarborough home.

She was born in Portland in 1928, daughter of Herman Brewer and Marie (Nielsen) Libby, and attended Portland schools.

After graduating from Portland High School in 1946, she attended junior college in Boston and graduated from Burdett College.

For many years she worked as a private secretary for Gannett Publishing and later on at Shaw’s in Mill Creek.

She was a member of the Portland Eagles and the Saint Lawrence Congregational Church in Portland.

Family was her focus, and she was actively involved with her grandchildren, attending their school functions and sporting events. She enjoyed spending time with family at the holidays and would travel throughout the year to see her children and grandchildren who moved away.

She was predeceased by her husband, Herman Leroy Brackett, in 1984; a grandson, Garrett Brackett, in 1987;, a sister, Priscilla Hill, and stepmother, Jessie M. Libby.

Survivors include her three sons, Robert P. and wife Maliea Brackett of Scarborough, Bruce L. and wife Cheryl Brackett of South Portland, and Brian L. and wife Mary Brackett of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren, Alyssa, Libby, Reegan, Nicholas and Benjamin.

Memorial services were held last week.

Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
