NYA student National Merit Scholar finalist

North Yarmouth Academy senior Leo Webster of Cumberland Center was chosen as a National Merit Scholar Finalist.

Webster began the NMSC process in October 2016 when over 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Last fall, he was named one of 16,000 semifinalists and among the highest-scoring participants in the state. The semifinalists, less than 1 percent of the nation’s high school seniors, had an opportunity to continue in the competition. Fifteen thousand students met the high academic standards and other requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition.
