‘Mr. Hockey’ to play lacrosse for Boston University

Isaac Lipton, of Cumberland, captain of his hockey team this year, was awarded the Mr. Hockey award by coach Tom Pratt at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts. Lipton was also elected co-captain for his lacrosse team and will play Division I lacrosse for Boston University starting in fall of 2014.

Women’s ice hockey player receives award

Megan Finlay, a freshman at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., was awarded the Dr. Ruth M. Grant Academic Achievement Award after successfully completing her first NCAA Division I ice hockey season. The award is presented to a student athlete who meets a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Finlay is a 2013 graduate of Greely High School and a current resident of Cumberland.

Yarmouth resident earns Porsche apprenticeship

Yarmouth resident Patrick Sullivan graduated from Universal Technical Institute, where he was selected from the top automotive and diesel technology students from across the country for the Roger Penske Outstanding Student Award. In addition to this honor and $12,000 cash award, Sullivan was then selected to the exclusive Porsche Technology Apprenticeship Training Program (a program fully paid for by the manufacturer) that he’ll be starting later in April at Porsche’s facility in Pennsylvania.

Families needed to host exchange students

The following specific exchange students are available for families to host so they may attend Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth, Yarmouth and North Yarmouth High Schools for the next school year. A Chinese girl that likes swimming and piano; a girl from Germany who likes yoga, cycling and dance; a boy from Finland who likes soccer and skiing; a Thai girl that likes biking, swimming and painting; a girl from Germany who likes swimming, running and singing; and a boy from Mexico who likes weightlifting, volleyball and football. Students are between 15 and 17 years old, they arrive toward the middle of August and stay until June 25, 2015.
