Local residents makes dean’s list

The following students made dean’s list at their respective college or university.

Azusa Pacific University: Sean Sidders, of North Yarmouth.

Elmira College: Nikkole Gardner, of Falmouth

Emerson College: Grace Powell and Rachel Powell, both of Freeport; and Marissa Bickford, of Falmouth.

Lafayette College: Michael Bloom, of Falmouth.

Author to visit Falmouth Middle School

Falmouth Middle School will host Ben Mikaelsen, author of “Touching Spirit Bear,” on April 15. The book is read by every sixth grader in Falmouth, and focuses on learning how to deal with things that happen in life. While at the school, Mikaelsen will talk about becoming the author of your own life – as he did. The students will have time to meet with Mikaelsen, a few will have lunch with him, and he will be available to sign autographs. His visit is courtesy of Morong Falmouth and an anonymous parent.

Yarmouth resident accepts internship

Carly Westerfield, 2011 graduate of Yarmouth High School, accepted an internship at Goldman Sachs Investment Bank for this summer. She is now a senior and honors student at the University of Denver, where she is majoring in finance and economics.

Yarmouth senior attending U.S. Air Force Academy

Yarmouth High School senior Wesley Crawford has accepted an offer to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, (D-Maine) nominated Crawford to the Academy in December.

Brownie troop delivered holiday cheer

In December 2013, eight Brownies from Falmouth Troop #2090 decided to make holidays cards and donate flowers and plants to the girls at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in order to brighten their day. The girls spent a Saturday morning making holiday cards with stickers, markers, pine cones, ribbons, pom-poms and a lot of glitter. Later that day, Martha Murdick, a nurse at Maine Medical Center, and her daughter, a Brownie, delivered the cards and plants.
