Local swimmers, divers and track and field athletes competed against the best in the region at recent New England meets.

The swimming and diving championships were held late last month at the University of New Hampshire.

Greely’s Class B boys’ state championship team had the fastest 200 medley relay time as senior John Madeira, senior Patrick Bowden, sophomore Dan Spencer and junior Ian Mecray finished in 1 minute, 44.63 seconds. The Rangers 400 freestyle relay team (Bowden, Mecray, senior Kyle Wilson and Spencer) was second in 3:23.59.

Bowden was third in the 200 free (1:52.22) and also placed third in the breaststroke (1:03.67).  Spencer came in sixth in both the 100 free (50.57 seconds) and the 200 free (1:53.09). Wilson finished seventh in the 500 free (5:23.69). Mecray was 10th in the 100 free (51.54) and 13th in the 50 free (23.61). Madeira placed 11th in the backstroke (58.76). Ben Marchese came in 12th in diving (217.30 points).

Falmouth’s Ryan Conley was eighth in diving (234.30).

On the girls’ side, state champion Greely won the 200 and 400 free relay. Sophomore Sara Schad, junior Megan Stroud, senior Taylor Roach and freshman Sarah Easterling had a time of 1:44.35 in the 200 free, setting a new New England record in the process. In the 400, Easterling, Stroud, Roach and Schad finished in 3:47.14.

Individually, Easterling was runner-up in the backstroke (1:00.62) and third in the 200 individual medley (2:15.01). Schad was fourth in the 100 free (55.66) and placed fifth in the 200 free (2:02.72). Stroud was sixth in the 200 free (2:05.31). Freshman Emily Domingo finished 12th in the 500 free (5:46.32). Roach placed 13th in the 100 free (58.72).

Falmouth’s Nicola Mancini won diving (353.70). Sarah Uminski placed 10th in the 200 free (2:08.01) and came in 11th in the 100 free (57.75).

The indoor track and field New England championship meet was held Friday in Boston.

The top local finisher was Greely senior Mark McCauley, who was runner up to Brunswick’s Will Geoghegan in the boys’ mile (4:15.43). Junior Jack Fellows came in 18th in the shot put (47-4). Junior Michael Burgess was 23rd in the shot put (45 feet).

For Class B state champion Falmouth, junior Will Wegener finished 12th in the 300 (36.65). Senior Michael Gardner was 19th in the 600 (1:27.92). Senior Kellen MacDonald finished 23rd in the 55 hurdles (8.31). Senior Alec Dunn was 24th in the 55 hurdles (8.36). The Yachtsmen’s 4×800 relay team (senior Charlie Swerdlow, senior Mike Serunian, freshman Azad Jalali and Gardner) placed 20th (8:54.77).

North Yarmouth Academy senior Henry Sterling placed ninth in the two-mile (9:29.64).

On the girls’ side, Greely senior Hannah Werneth placed ninth in the shot put (36-8.25). Junior Katherine Harrington was 12th in the shot put (35-8.75). The Rangers 4×800 relay team (freshman Sarah Fitch, junior Meaghan Crowley, junior Deanna Little and sophomore Melissa Jacques) came in 25th (10:34.8).

NYA sophomore Hannah Twombly finished 24th in the mile (5:49.19).
