NORTH YARMOUTH — Harold Stoddard has withdrawn from the June 9 election for the Board of Selectmen.

His decision leaves two candidates in the race for a seat on the board.

Stoddard, of Smithwood Drive, notified the town of his withdrawal May 20, according to Town Clerk Debbie Grover. Since it was too late to print new ballots, his name remains on the ballot, along with candidate Keith Thompson of Bryn Lane.

Former Selectman Jeanne Chadbourne of North Yarmouth Woods is running as a declared write-in candidate.

“I felt that the position needs 100 percent of dedication, time and a lot extra effort by whomever gets the position,” Stoddard said in an email June 4. “I would be failing on the time needed to give towards that effort.”

Stoddard said he supports Thompon’s candidacy, because Thompson “has put in the extra effort.”
