I would like to report a positive happening in this time of not always good news. For two months in a row, North Yarmouth has had the highest recycling rate of ecomaine members: 49.03 percent and 49.58 percent. Rates for the previous three years have varied from 10 percent to 15 percent. Townspeople have reduced the municipal solid waste by more than 50 tons a month for a savings for the town of $88 a ton. Long-term additional savings will be earned because the annual ecomaine assessment fees are based on total solid waste delivered. Our new system has reduced waste and increased recyling. North Yarmouth residents should be proud of the current success of the pay to throw recycling program. Please keep up the good work.
