NORTH YARMOUTH — Attorney Ande Smith on Monday announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the First Congressional District.
Smith hopes to challenge U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-Maine, for the seat she has held since 2009. He is the second declared GOP candidate; Dr. Mark Holbrook of Brunswick previously announced his candidacy.
Smith, who serves on the state Board of Education, is a patent attorney who spent almost 30 years the U.S. Navy. He owns a cyber-security consulting firm, and has run a telecommunications and information technology security consultancy.
Smith is also married to Julie McDonald-Smith, who writes a column, “The Right View,” for The Forecaster.
