NORTH YARMOUTH — “The Town Where Others Began” is the place to be this weekend for the annual North Yarmouth Fun Day and the inaugural Family Triathlon.

All Fun Day events on Saturday take place on the Village Green on Route 115. A pancake breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Fun Day Parade at 9 a.m.

Norman Smith will be the parade’s grand marshal. He and his late brother, Donald, will be honored as this year’s Distinguished Citizen Award winners at the Village Green bandstand at 9:30 a.m.

This year’s Fun Day theme is “Discover North Yarmouth.”

The day will feature a Zumba demonstration and dance, Tree Frog Farms’ dog agility demonstration, a diaper derby, karaoke contest, cribbage tournament, treasure hunt, face painting, line dancing, horseshoes and a variety of other activities.

There will be traditional ice cream and pie, burgers and hot dogs, along with healthy wraps, California rolls and spring rolls and noodles.

More than 25 vendors under the big white tent will showcase crafts and other items for sale.

The North Yarmouth Fire Department hosts a beanhole bean supper at 5 p.m.

The first North Yarmouth Family Triathlon will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29.

The event will start at Wescustogo Park on Route 231 with 1.75 miles of paddling on the Royal River, to the take-out at Route 9. Participants then will bicycle one mile and run one mile through Old Town House Park.

Teams of family and friends are encouraged, as well as individual entrants. The cost is $15, whether the entry is for an individual or a team, and souvenir t-shirts can be ordered for $10.
