YARMOUTH — North Yarmouth Academy’s board of trustees voted Feb. 20 to renovate and expand its lower school to begin enrolling children ages 18 months to  3 years old this fall.

The expansion will add 1,600 square feet, nearly doubling the size of the lower school, which opened in September 2013 with 53 students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.

The project, which is contingent upon securing funding, is expected to begin in May and be completed before the start of the 2014-2015 school year.

In other news, the school announced last week that it received a $10,000 grant from the Libra Foundation that it will use to renovate the Safford Center, a campus space built in 1930 that houses the dining hall, an auditorium and more.
