YARMOUTH — North Yarmouth Academy’s Lower School will be named in honor of Lincoln Merrill Jr. and Kim Merrill.

The Lower School opened in 2013 and houses pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. A ceremony to honor the Merrills will be held on Friday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. and is open to all.

Lincoln Merrill graduated first in his class from the academy in 1975. He went on to attend Bowdoin College and then the University of Southern Maine and is now the president and CEO of Patriot Insurance Co. in Yarmouth.

According to a news release from NYA, Kim Merrill became “heavily involved” as a parent volunteer with NYA, working as a class parent, auction volunteer and athletics booster, when the Merrills’ daughters attended NYA.

The naming of the Merrill Lower School Building recognizes the Merrills’ service to the NYA and their financial generosity; their “lifetime support” has reached nearly $750,000, according to the school.
