In advance of the new sports season, Freeport High School’s athletic department is hosting a preseason information night Thursday at 7 p.m. The night is specifically designed for parents and students to have questions answered, meet the coaching staff and hear from them their team/parent expectations. The fall sports preseason begins Monday and Freeport High has announced its first week schedule. Football goes from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Pownal Road Recreation Field. Equipment will be issued Sunday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m., at the back door of the gym. Boys’ soccer goes from 8 to 11 a.m. at the soccer field. The girls’ team goes from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the 19th and from 8 to 11:30 a.m. the other days, at the field. Field hockey meets from 8 to 11 a.m., on its field. Cross country meets from 5 to 6:30 p.m., on the front lawn of the high school. Golf meets at 3:30 p.m., at Toddy Brook. Cheering goes from 4 to 6 p.m., at the school cafe.

The Southern Maine Flame softball program is holding tryouts for the 2014 season Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 25 at 3 p.m. at Wainwright Farms in South Portland. A $20 fee is required. FMI, southernmaineflame.com.
