New baseball coach at Freeport

Freeport High School has named Bill Ridge as its new varsity baseball coach. Ridge is a special education teacher at Freeport Middle School and spent the past three seasons as the head coach of the Brunswick baseball program. Ridge replaces Hank Ogilby, who stepped down after 16 seasons.

Pickleball Classic upcoming

The 2014 Maine Pickleball Classic, a USAPA sanctioned event, will be held Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m., at Deering High School in Portland. There will be under-60 and over-60 divisions with men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Admission is free.

NYA coaching openings

North Yarmouth Academy has openings for a varsity baseball and junior varsity/assistant girls’ lacrosse coach for the upcoming spring season. FMI, 847-5456 or jhardy@nya.org

RSU5 coaching openings

Umpires needed

The Western Maine Baseball Umpires Association is holding certification classes for schools and leagues above the Little League level in Cumberland and York Counties. Classes run four consecutive Sundays beginning Feb. 9. FMI, 653-8736 or wmbua@maine.rr.com.

CNYLL registration underway, coaches needed

Registration for the Cumberland/North Yarmouth Little League 2014 season is underway at cnyll.com. Registrations received prior to Feb. 28 are eligible for an early bird discount. Coaches are also needed at all levels. Applications for Pony and Farm league are due Feb. 28.
