Track season concludes at New Englands

Several local runners, jumpers and throwers wrapped up the outdoor track and field season last weekend in Bridgewater, Mass., at the New England championships. The top female was North Yarmouth Academy’s Muriel Adams, who finished 12th in the discus (109 feet, 3 inches). Teammate Hannah Austin came in 20th in the two-mile (11 minutes, 35.72 seconds). Yarmouth’s Emma Egan finished 13th in the high jump (5-0) and 30th in the 100 (13.22 seconds). Greely’s Alyssa Casarez was 16th in the shot put (35-4) and 23rd in the discus (102-1). Freeport’s 1,600 relay came in 20th (4:11.47). Falmouth’s Adelaide Cooke came in 29th in the discus (91-0). Yarmouth’s Ben Decker was the top male, placing ninth in the mile (9:37.03). Darren Shi came in 15th in the shot put (48-4.5). NYA’s Matt Malcom placed 14th in the mile (4:31.04). Michael McIntosh finished 22nd in the 100 (11.76). Xander Bartone placed 24th in the 400 (52.95). The Panthers 400 relay team was 22nd (45.13).

Freeport coaching openings

RSU5 has several coaching openings for next school year. Freeport High has vacancies for boys’ first team soccer, assistant cross country, junior varsity field hockey, JV football, boys’ first team basketball, Nordic skiing and assistants for indoor and outdoor track. The middle school is seeking Alpine skiing, cheering, 7th grade boys’ soccer, 8th grade boys’ soccer, 8th grade boys’ basketball and an assistant for football. Tennis tournament upcoming

The 45th annual A&J open tennis tournament will be held Friday through Sunday at the Fore River Tennis Complex in Portland. Open competition will be held in men’s and women’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles, as well as men’s 35-and-over and 55-and-over singles. Registration deadline is June 19. Greely hockey holding golf tournament fundraiser

The First Tee of Maine will hold a first-ever free Girls’ Golf Fair for girls of all ages and abilities, Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., at Riverside South Golf Course. Maine Basketball Hall of Fame golf fundraiser upcoming

The first Southern Maine golf scramble to benefit the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame will be held Monday, July 21 at the Falmouth Country Club.
