New England meet puts bow on outdoor track season

Several local runners, jumpers and throwers took part in the New England outdoor track and field championship Saturday at Thornton Academy in Saco. Greely’s Alyssa Coyne placed sixth in the discus (118 feet, 8 inches) and 11th in the shot put (37-6). Emily Mason was 22nd in the two-mile (11 minutes, 47 seconds). Falmouth’s Adelaide Cooke was seventh in the discus (116-11). Lydia Farmer was 18th in the long jump (16-3). The Yachtsmen’s 4×400 relay was 18th (4:15.19) and their 4×800 relay came in 20th (10:09.24). North Yarmouth Academy’s Muriel Adams was eighth in the discus (116-10). Yarmouth’s Emma Egan placed ninth in the high jump (5-3). On the boys’ side, Yarmouth’s Luke Laverdiere was 20th in the mile (4:30.16). Sam Gerken was 25th in the 800 (2:06.40). The Clippers’ 4×400 relay team came in 22nd (3:38.13). Falmouth’s Andy Clement placed 21st in the 300 hurdles (41.58 seconds). Jalique Keene placed 22nd in the javelin (154-1). The Yachtsmen’s 4×100 relay was 15th (44.31).

NYA coaching openings

North Yarmouth Academy has several coaching openings for the 2015-16 school year. At the high school, there are openings for varsity field hockey, assistant/junior varsity field hockey, varsity girls’ prep ice hockey and assistant/JV prep ice hockey. Girls’ Golf Fair upcoming

The second annual Girls’ Golf Fair, presented by the First Tee of Maine, in collaboration with Women’s Maine State Golf Association, will be held Sunday, June 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the short-game practice area adjacent to the Riverside South Golf Course in Portland. U. Maine softball clinic coming to SP

The University of Maine softball coaching staff will host a clinic June 30 at Wainwright Farms in South Portland.
