Greely student named Player of the Year

Greely senior Chris Higgins was recently named the Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year for his contributions to the school’s football team. The award recognizes students who show outstanding athletic performance, strong leadership and the will to win.

Former Yarmouth lax standouts earn college recognition

Former Yarmouth High girls’ lacrosse standouts and All-Americans Nicole Grover and Jess Martineau were recently named to the 2009 Little East women’s lacrosse All-Conference teams. Grover, a freshman defender at Plymouth State, was named to the first team. Martineau, a sophomore midfielder at the University of Southern Maine made the second team.

Cumberland soccer league registration

The Cumberland/North Yarmouth American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) will hold registration for its 12th fall soccer season for children entering grades 1 through 6. NYA coaching openings

NYA basketball camp offered

North Yarmouth Academy is offering a summer basketball camp for boys and girls entering the 5th through 8th grades, Aug. 3 through 7. The camp is limited to 20 and includes lunch, a T-shirt, workout booklet and a personal evaluation. FMI, nya.org.

Lacrosse pick-up league starting

A men’s and women’s lacrosse pick-up league will be held Sunday nights from June 7 through Aug. 9 at Deering High’s Memorial Field. Women play from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Men go from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $70. FMI, info@maineelitelacrosse.com.

Sunday lacrosse clinics offered

Cheverus boys’ varsity lacrosse coach Deke Andrew and other top coaches from the area will be hosting weekly Sunday lacrosse clinics from June 7 through Aug. 9 at Deering High’s Memorial Field. The cost is $75 for five weeks or $150 for 10 weeks. The program is a mix of instruction and game play and is open to boys and girls entering grades 2 through 8 next fall.
