Falmouth High announces first-day fall practice schedules

The first day of preseason practice for the fall sports season at
Falmouth High School is Monday. Football goes from 8 to 10:30
a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m. Boys’ soccer practices from 9 to 11 a.m. and 3
to 5 p.m. Girls’ soccer practices from 6:45 to 9:15 a.m. and 4:45 to
7:15 p.m. Field hockey goes from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Cross country has sessions at 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Runners must
attend one and may attend both. Volleyball goes from 8:30 a.m. to 12
p.m. for juniors and seniors and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. for freshmen and
sophomores. The golf first day schedule will be posted on the athletics
web site. Student-athletes must have a current physical examination on
file in the athletic office prior to attending the first day of

Freeport High’s first day practice schedule

The first week of fall sports practice at Freeport High School
begins Monday and goes as follows: Football practices from 4
to 7 p.m. at the Pownal Road Recreation Field. Boys’ soccer will
practice from 8 to 11 a.m. on the soccer field. Girls’ soccer goes from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the soccer field. Field hockey practices on its field from 8:30
to 11:30 a.m. Cross country goes from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and meets on the
school’s front lawn. Golf practices at 3:30 p.m. at Toddy Brook. 

NYA first day practice schedule

NYA also begins fall sports practice Monday. Boys’ soccer meets from 12 to 3 p.m. Girls’ soccer goes from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Field hockey meets from 3 to 6 p.m. Cross country from 3 to 5 p.m. Golf will start on Tuesday.

Shay’s Grill Pub wins Men’s Elite Lacrosse championship

The 2009 Maine Elite Lacrosse championship went to Shay’s Grill Pub
after it defeated Atlantic Sportswear 9-5 in the title game last
Thursday night in Portland. Shay’s led 3-0 after one period, 6-3 at the
half and 9-4 after three quarters. Adam Tracy led the victors with
three goals. Jeff Muscatello and Scarborough varsity boys’ coach Joe
Hezlep each added two. Adam Rothbart led Atlantic with two goals.

WMC sweeps soccer all-star games

The Western Maine Conference downed the Southern Maine Activities
Association in both the 19th annual boys’ and girls’ Senior All-Star
Games last Tuesday in Westbrook, in an event which benefitted the
Special Olympics. The WMC girls won 4-2 behind goals from Greely’s Liza
LePage and Hannah Young and Yarmouth’s Tess Beem. In the boys’ game,
Yarmouth’s Johnny Murphy scored twice and Cape Elizabeth’s Amory
Houghton added a tally to help the WMC win 5-0.

Falmouth coaching openings

The Falmouth School Department has several coaching openings for the
2009-2010 school year. At the middle school, a boys’ and a girls’
soccer coach are needed. At the high school, a
varsity girls’ hockey, varsity Nordic ski and varsity baseball, along
with a varsity girls’ hockey assistant and a varsity Nordic ski

Yarmouth coaching openings

Yarmouth High School has coaching openings for varsity indoor track,
girls’ freshman soccer, assistant boys’ ice hockey and swimming, and
junior varsity field hockey and golf. Harrison Middle School needs
expansion boys’ and girls’ soccer and 7th and 8th grade field hockey

North Yarmouth Academy is seeking an upper school Nordic ski coach and
a middle school boys’ and girls’ basketball, as well as a middle school

SailMaine seeking coaches

Come join us at SailMaine this Fall to coach a group of talented high
school sailors on Casco Bay. We are looking for competent, professional
coaches to coach one of our high school teams. Teams practice together
three days a week from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. We are also looking for
assistant coaches. The season begins in mid-August and ends on Oct. 31.

Maine Running Company and Reebok are hosting a Coach and Athlete cross
country running clinic Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the University of
Southern Maine Portland Campus’ Luther Bonney Hall. Local coaches will
be part of the panel.
