Halligan a Coach of the Year finalist

Longtime Falmouth boys’ soccer coach Dave Halligan was recently named the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America Region I (New England) Coach of the Year and is one of eight finalists for the national award, to be presented Friday night in Philadelphia. Halligan, who has won 277 games and nine state championships (two in Class C and seven of the past 10 in Class B) in his 23 seasons at Falmouth, was named Coach of the Year back in 1998.

“They thought I was a good coach when I had Roger Levesque and now I’m a good coach when I have (All-American) Gabe Hoffman-Johnson,” Halligan joked.

Hoffman-Johnson will also be in attendance in Philadelphia, receiving recognition for his second straight All-American selection.

Falmouth girl wins Hoop Shoot

Falmouth’s Allie Clement won the girls’ 12-13 age group in the Elks Hoop Shoot contest Sunday at McAuley High School. Clement advanced to the district championship this coming Sunday at Bath Middle School.

Baseball pitching clinic upcoming

Ryne Lawson of the Portland Sea Dogs and former Deering High standout Ryan Reid, now pitching in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, will instruct the basics of pitching Saturday, Jan. 23 in the Falmouth Middle School gym. Falmouth Little League registration open
