Local gymnasts enjoy top 10 finishes
Six local gymnasts from the Maine Academy of Gymnastics finished in the top 10 at the recent Brestyan’s 2010 Invitational in Medford, Mass. Falmouth’s Sarah Caldwell was first in the vault, fifth in the balance beam, ninth in bars and seventh all-around in the Level 7 junior division. North Yarmouth’s Zoe Lambert was second in vault, seventh in floor, 10th in beam, tied for sixth in bars and was sixth all-around in the Level 5 junior division. Yarmouth’s Anna Baker was eighth in beam and floor in Level 5. Yarmouth’s Hannah Elrick was seventh in floor and tied for sixth in beam and 10th in vault in Level 8. Addison Eldrick was ninth in vault in Level 5. Yarmouth’s Katie Overhaug tied for sixth in the vault in Level 6.
New season for JO volleyball team
The Portland North 18-Gold Junior Olympic volleyball team began a new season recently in Hartford, Conn. The squad finished 13th out of 40 participating teams. Portland North features Erin Cadigan, Michaela Campbell and Sara Warnock of defending state champion Greely, Falmouth’s Kate Sparks, Emma Wilberg and Alyssa Yeung, Yarmouth’s Kate Darrell and Scarborough’s Abby Lalone.
February Fun Day upcoming
February Fun Day, to benefit the Maine Adaptive Skate Program and the Falmouth High girls’ ice hockey program, will be held Sunday, Feb. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Family Ice Center. There will be indoor ice skating and other activities. Cost is $8.
Yarmouth seeking coaches
Yarmouth High is seeking first team baseball, junior varsity softball, first team boys’ lacrosse, junior varsity field hockey and assistant girls’ lacrosse coaches. Also, there’s an opening for an 8th grade softball position at Harrison Middle School. FMI, 846-2329.
Casco Bay Stripers win meet
The Casco Bay YMCA Stripers swim team defeated the Sanford Titans in a recent meet. Emelia Von Saltza, Abby Belisle-Haley, Amelia Deady, and Bridget Estabrook established a new team record in the Girls 13-14 Medley Relay.
MPS Portland Phoenix running skills camp
