Falmouth golf tryout schedule

Falmouth golf team tryouts are as follows: Thursday at 5 p.m., Friday at 7:30 a.m. and Monday at 5 p.m. All sessions will be held at the Woodlands. Proper golf attire is required.

Local sailors impress at JOs

Local sailors took part at the recent Massachusetts Bay Junior Olympics. In the Optimist class, Falmouth’s Haley McMahon placed fifth, Yarmouth’s Sam Alexander finished sixth and Falmouth’s Clayton Sasaki came in seventh. In the Club-420 class, South Freeport’s Kevin Schwarm (skipper) and Graham Allen (crew) finished second. Cumberland’s Maddie Whittier, along with Tuck Jones, placed fourth. Falmouth’s Myles Everett, along with Ted Farnsworth of Cape Elizabeth, came in sixth.

Yarmouth football hosting preseason event

On Saturday, Aug. 28, the Yarmouth Football Boosters will host the preseason Pigskin Panic, a kickoff to a new season for the reigning Western C Finalists. There will be games for kids, a bonfire, a meet-and-greet with the team, an announcement of captains and a pig roast and tailgate picnic. All are welcome.

Falmouth Middle School hockey openings

The Falmouth Ice Hockey Association is seeking qualified applicants for the upcoming season. There are a number of coaching slots available for the Middle School ice hockey teams, including the head coaching positions for the varsity boys and junior varsity co-ed teams. Casco Bay Sports announces fall offerings

Casco Bay Sports has openings for several fall sports leagues. Outdoor soccer has an 11 v 11 Sunday league, beginning Sept. 12 and a Monday 6 v 6 league, starting Sept. 20. Coed flag football starts Sept. 12. Coed frostbite softball begins Sept. 12. Basketball features a Tuesday competitive league, beginning Sept. 14, a Thursday all-ability league, starting Sept. 16 and a Sunday all-ability league, beginning Oct. 3. Portland Porpoise registration

The Portland Porpoise Swim Club will hold assessments and registration for new swimmers Sunday, Sept. 12th at 2:30 p.m., at the Riverton Community Center in Portland, for school-aged children interested in competitive swimming. There will also be a high school prep program from Sept. 12 through Nov. 14, focusing primarily on stroke technique and drills, as well as general aerobic conditioning. Freeport Gridiron Club hosting road race

The Freeport Gridiron Club will host a Run With The Falcons 5K road race Sunday, Aug. 29, beginning at 8 a.m., at the Mast Landing School in Freeport. Frozen Ropes tryouts

The Frozen Ropes Baseball and Softball Training Center will be conducting tryouts for their Jr. Black Bear 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U travel softball teams on Sunday, Aug. 22. The tryouts will be held at the Springbrook Park in Scarborough. 12U and 14U tryouts will be at 9 a.m., 14U at 11:30 a.m. and the 18U tryout will be at 1:30 p.m. The Jr. Black Bear program is overseen by Lynn Coutts.
