Yarmouth hockey players honored

Yarmouth’s Joey King and Ben Nickerson were two of 12 recent scholarship winners from the 2010 Maine High School Hockey Invitational. King and Nickerson both received a $500 scholarship for the results of their academic achievement, community service, extracurricular activity, athletic achievement, post-secondary educational pursuit and a 250-word essay explaining the biggest obstacle overcome in life.

Falmouth resident earns tennis honor

Falmouth’s Justin Brogan has been lauded by the United States Tennis Association New England for his sportsmanship and named USTA New England’s winner of the 2010 boys’ 14-and-under sportsmanship award, presented to a player who exemplified sportsmanship qualities on and off the court in 2010. Brogan will be honored at USTA New England’s annual award ceremony, which takes place next month in Marlboro, Mass.

Yarmouth coaching openings

The Yarmouth school system is seeking spring coaches for seventh grade softball, eighth grade boys’ lacrosse, first team boys’ lacrosse and first team girls’ lacrosse. In the fall, there are openings for junior varsity golf and middle school field hockey. FMI, susan_robbins@yarmouth.k12.me.us.

Lacrosse officials sought

Cumberland/North Yarmouth lacrosse registration

Registration for boys’ and girls’ youth lacrosse programs for Cumberland and North Yarmouth children in grades 3 through 6 will be held March 2 at 6:30 p.m., at the Greely Middle School’s cafeteria. Falmouth Little League registration open

Player registration for the 2011 season of the Falmouth Little League is open, through Feb. 28. New players must present a birth certificate for age verification. Cumberland/North Yarmouth LL registration open

Registration for Cumberland/North Yarmouth’s 2011 Little League season is open and can only be done online via credit card at cnyll.com. You’ll receive an early bird discount by registering prior to Feb. 28. Coaches are needed for all levels. FMI, cnyll.com.

Yarmouth Little League registration upcoming

Registration for Yarmouth’s Little League 2011 season will be held March 3 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Harrison Middle School’s cafeteria. The cost is $85 for farm league and $95 for baseball or softball. A birth certificate is required, unless presented last year. FMI, yarmouthlittleleague.com.
