Former Greely star earns Maine Baseball Hall of Fame nod

Bobby Doyle, a one-time Greely High and Portland Twilight League standout and longtime pitching coach at St. Joseph’s College, will be a posthumous induction into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame this summer. There are 11 inductees in all. This year’s ceremony is July 31 at the Holiday Inn by the Bay. Tickets can be obtained by calling 883-0154 or 846-3460.

Local skiers help Maine team to victory

Local skiers helped the Maine 14-15 year-old-team to victory in the recent J2 Nordic championships in New Hampshire. Yarmouth’s Tara Humphries won the 5-kilometer freestyle. Yarmouth’s Jack Elder was second in the freestyle on the boys’ side. Humphries came in ninth in the classic. Merriconeag’s Zoe Chace-Donahue placed eighth in the freestyle and 14th in the classic. In the boys’ classic, Elder finished 12th and Yarmouth’s Tom Sullivan tied for fourth.

Freeport woman wins three events at USATF Masters

Freeport’s Susan Wiemer won the pentathlon, 60 meter hurdles and shot put at the recent United States Track and Field nationals in Albuquerque, N.M.

Former Boston Bruins greats to play in all-star game

Former Boston Bruins standouts such as Kenny Linseman, Ken Hodge, Andy Brickley, Bobby Beers, Don Marcotte, Frank Siminetti and others will face local male and female high school all-stars Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Yarmouth crew fundraiser upcoming

The Yarmouth High crew team is holding a fundraiser Saturday, March 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the high school. Tickets are $8 per person.
