Boys’ hockey playoffs underway

All three local boys’ hockey teams qualified for the postseason, which began Tuesday. In Western Class A, Falmouth finished second to defending state champion Thornton Academy in the Heal Points standings with a 13-4-1 record after finishing with a 6-0 home win over Scarborough Thursday. The Yachtsmen hosted No. 7 Kennebunk (13-6) in the quarterfinals Tuesday (see theforecaster.net for game story). In Western B, Yarmouth’s 4-2 loss at Camden Hills last Wednesday, dropped it to fifth behind the Windjammers in the Heals with an 11-6-1 record. That sent the Clippers back to Camden Hills Tuesday for the quarterfinals. The winner advanced to face top-ranked Greely (12-4-2 after a season-ending 4-2 victory at Cape Elizabeth) Saturday in the semifinals at Portland Ice Arena (start time to be announced).
