BRUNSWICK — Norman M. Smith, 75, died June 8 at Mid Coast Senior Health Center in Brunswick.
Born in Boston, Mass., on Aug. 24, 1934, he was a son of Frank and Esther (Gorshel) Smith, and attended Boston schools.
He moved to Maine to work at Smith Cleaners, the family business in Bath.
In 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and attended a culinary school in Germany, which lead to his passion for cooking.
In March 1959 he married Judith MacPhee. They were married for 25 years and had two sons together.
For the past 23 years he worked summers as a chef at Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor, and was proud that he never missed a day of work.
He is survived by his two sons, Norman Jr., and Richard; and three grandchildren, Monique, Martin and Cameron; and his brother, Lawrence Smith.
Memorial services will be private.
