Lewis L. Smith, 76
FREEPORT — Lewis Lawrence Smith, 76, died peacefully Sept. 26 at his summer home in Freeport.
Born in Philadelphia in 1933, the son of Lawrence M.C. and Eleanor Houston Smith, he attended schools in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.
After he graduated from Harvard University, he attended the Harvard Business School, where he received his master's degree. From 1954 to 1956 he served in the U.S. Air Force.
He spent the bulk of his career creating and promoting alternative energy programs and policies as an economist in Puerto Rico, where he lived with his wife Trinita Muniz Burgos, and raised four children, two nephews and one niece.
Following his work with the Puerto Rican government, he continued to work as an economic consultant on alternative energy projects.
He is survived by his wife, Trinita Muniz Burgos; and four children, Clemson Lewis Smith Muniz, Stanley Houston Smith Muniz, Sarita Eleanor Smith Hanley and Rebecca Smith Albert; 10 grandchildren; two legal dependents, Eduardo Enrique Pellot Muniz and Norma Rita Pellot Muniz; and five siblings, Eleanor Kenner Morris, Samuel H. Smith, G.G. Meredith S.S. Smith, Sarah L.O. Smith, and Mary Minor Smith.
Memorial services were held last week.
