Philip K. Reiman, 88: Lived life of integrity, service to others

FALMOUTH — Philip Kenworthy Reiman, 88, died Sept.5, at Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Boston, he was educated at Cornell University and later received an advanced degree from the University of Chicago. 

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army.

He had a long and distinguished career in medical administration, having served as the executive director of Maine Medical Center in Portland from 1962 to 1976, and the executive director at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford from 1977 until his retirement in 1988. 

Beyond his duties at work, he was an active member of numerous medical boards and councils, including the Maine Health Coordinating Planning Council, the Maine Hospital Association, the Maine Health Planning Agency, and was a corporator of Webber Hospital Association and Maine Medical Center.

Over the years, he supported his community as an honorary director of Blue Cross, volunteered with Rotary, the Service Corps of Retired Executives and Habitat for Humanity.

He was also a longtime member of Foreside Community Church in Falmouth. 

His integrity, hard work and compassion was an example to all who knew and loved him.

His wife, Catherine McDonald Reiman, predeceased him in 2007. 

Surviving are two daughters, Laurie Reiman Mooney of Portland and Anne McDonald Reiman of Falmouth; a grandson, Christopher Mooney and his wife Jessica Ford Mooney of California; a sister, Joanne Eusden of Brunswick, and a brother, Peter Reiman of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16 at the Foreside Community Church, 340 Foreside Road, Falmouth.
