Area students complete
anti-drinking project

TOPSHAM — Students from the Mt. Ararat Student Leadership Advocacy Committee, Communities Against Substance Abuse, and the Topsham Police Department came together to complete an underage drinking prevention project called Project Sticker Shock.

The groups placed orange stickers on packages of beer and wine coolers at Michaud’s Market and Gibbs on Main St. in Topsham to warn buyers of the penalties of providing alcohol to minors.

Penalties for illegally providing alcohol to minors include fines of up to $2000, jail sentences of up to 12 months, and potentially being sued for property damage, bodily injury or death caused by the liquor consumption.

The community outreach project was taken on by the students in time for prom and graduation season.
