Kathleen F. Dennison, 74: Longtime nurse at Maine Med

SOUTH PORTLAND — Kathleen F. "Kathy" Dennison, 74, died peacefully with family by her side April 18. 

Born  in South Portland, May 27, 1935, she was a daughter of Keith F. and Frances Higgins Dennison.

After graduating from South Portland High School in 1953 she attended Maine Medical Center School of Nursing, graduating second of her class in 1956. 

For many years she worked at Maine Medical Center as Head Nurse of Neurology.

The last nine years of her 37-year nursing career was spent as head nurse at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham. She found this to be very rewarding. She did not judge the inmates and enjoyed attending many of their sporting events.

During her time in Windham, she met her dear friend and co-worker, Dr. Ira Stockwell, who cared for her these last few years with the help of his wife Cleta.

She loved the many Boston terriers she had over the years and rarely went anywhere withouth her dogs.

Known for her great sense of humor and quick wit, she was fun-loving and enjoyed traveling and getting together with friends and family. 

She was also a die-hard fan of the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, and New England Patriots.
 
She was predeceased by her brother Keith Dennison Jr., and nephew Garry Ferrell. 

Surviving are her sister, Deborah Gregory and her husband Michael; her sister-in-law, Joan Dennison; two nieces, Kimberley Ferrell and her son Christopher, and niece Melissa Kane, her husband Michael, their children Kevin, Kathryn and Caroline, two nephews, Michael Gregory Jr., his wife Melinda, their children Michael III, and Brittany, and her nephew Matthew Gregory; life-long friend Doramay Bragg,

Visitors are welcome from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, April 30, with a memorial service to follow at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
