Eva (Romano) DiRenzo, 99: Loved cooking for family, gardening

FREEPORT — Eva (Romano) DiRenzo, 99, formerly of Portland, died April 18 at the Hawthorne House in Freeport.

Born in Portland on Feb. 13, 1911, she was the daughter of John and Concetta (Longo) Romano.

She grew up in Cetraro, Calabria, Italy and attended local schools before returning to Portland when she was 19.

For a brief time she worked in a textile mill before marrying Aaron A. DiRenzo in 1937.

She loved cooking for her family, and her pride and joy was her flower and vegetable garden. She gardened well into her 90s and always looked forward to spring.

She was predeceased by her husband Aaron in April 1995.

Surviving are her three children, Janice Colello and her husband Michael of Portland, Anthony DiRenzo and his wife Linda of The Villages, Fla., and Theodore DiRenzo and his partner Lynne Fecteau of Scarborough; two grandchildren, Paula McGee and her husband Mark of Lutz, Fla., and Michael P. Colello of Portland; two great-grandchildren, Grace and Jack McGee; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, from 4-8 p.m., at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.

Relatives and friends are invited to a recitation of prayers at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21 at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal St., Portland.
