Several local skiers had top finishes at the recent state Alpine shootout at Mt. Abram where the top 90 skiers in the state competed to earn a chance to compete at the Eastern High School championships in New Hampshire. Local boys' qualifiers included Freeport's Ryan Collet (fourth), Cape Elizabeth's Sam Barber (fifth), Falmouth's Alex Gowan (sixth), Yarmouth's Reed Wommack (eighth) and Falmouth's Ben Weigel (11th).
Top local girls' finishers included Cheverus' Maggie Corrigan (fourth), Greely's Maddie Whittier (sixth) and Yarmouth's Natalie Aiken (ninth).
