Cape teen wins Cumberland
County Spelling Bee

CAPE ELIZABETH — Lily Jordan, a seventh-grade student at Cape Elizabeth Middle School, won the Cumberland County Spelling Bee held earlier this month at Harrison Middle School in Yarmouth.

Eighteen area students entered the annual contest after placing first or second in their own school spelling bees.

Jordan spelled "necessary" and "predicate" to win the county bee for the second year in a row.

As county champion, Jordan will advance to the state spelling bee, scheduled for March 20, at the Abromson Center on the USM-Portland campus.
