Geoghegan wins Class A individual CC title

Brunswick, Morse and Mt. Ararat all had their moments at the Class A cross country championships Saturday at Twin Brook Recreation Area in Cumberland, but one local runner stole the show once again.

Brunswick's Will Geoghegan finished first in the boys' race, completing the 5-kilometer course in 15 minutes, 43.37 seconds (easily the best time of the day in any class) and qualified for Saturday's New England championships in Manchester, Conn.

The Dragons wound up fifth as a team with 155 points. Cheverus won the title with 83. Mt. Ararat (237) placed 10th. Morse didn't compete as a team, but standout Jason Kaake had the third-fastest individual time (16:14.94), which qualified him for New Englands, along with Geoghegan and Brunswick's Liam Cassidy (fifth, 16:18.99).

Morse's Kory Scarponi (42nd, 18:02) also ran as an individual.

Andy Reifman-Packet was Mt. Ararat's top finisher (24th, 17:31).

In the girls' race, won also by Cheverus with 52 points, Mt. Ararat (206) placed ninth, while Brunswick (216) finished 10th.

Brunswick sophomore standout Kathleen McMahon was fourth (third for scoring purposes in 19:34). Mt. Ararat junior Kate Spies came in 10th (20:06). Both girls will compete at New Englands.
