BATH — Donald Lee Archer, 59, died Sept. 25 at Maine Medical Center.

On Dec. 28, 1949, he was born in Bath, a son of Herman and Corris Archer.

Drafted into the Army when he was 20, he served as a sharp shooter and marksman in the Vietnam War and earned a National Defense Service medal.

He was married to the love of his life, Betty Fields, and raised three children who were everything to him. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and affectionately called his daughters "his girls." He always made sure to have a chocolate kiss for anyone who wanted one, earning him the nickname of the "candy man."

His other interests included racing, hunting, fourwheeling and snowmobiling.

A jack-of-all-trades, he worked for a variety of different employers, including Stintson's Canning, Eastland Shoe, construction and Bath Iron Works.

He will be sadly missed by all that loved him.

He is survived by his son Derek Archer of Waterville and his daughters Mindy Bresnahan and her husband Ian of Bath, and Kim Avila and her husband Carlos of Texas; three brothers, Pearly Archer of Washington, John Archer of Lewiston and Bobby Archer of Brunswick: seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; many aunts and uncles; cousins; nieces and nephews; and friends.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

Arrangements are by David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath.
