Letter: What nursing shortage?

I just turned 62 a couple of weeks ago. I've been a registered nurse for over 45 years. I got a bachelor's degree from Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, IL. Like Edgar Allen Beem, I'm "Underemployed or unemployed." I apply weekly to Maine Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, Martin's Point, Midcoast Hospital, and Parkview Hospital. Their so-called RN "shortages" don't make sense. They say, "Good luck in your job search."
I tried going back to college in 2001 and 2002. My journalism professor kicked me out after an hour screaming match. I'm currently trying to start an arts-and-crafts business (possible self-employment.) We are not planning to send our $5 plastic plates to eBay customers. In October, I'm to get my first Social Security check. Yippeee! I will be earning twice as much as I do now on unemployment. The moral of this letter is: Social Security should start at 45.
