Condon garden to be rededicated in Yarmouth

YARMOUTH — The Beth Condon Memorial Butterfly Garden will be rededicated on Saturday with a butterfly release.

The garden behind Town Hall is in memory of Elizabeth "Beth" Condon, a 15-year-old girl who was killed on Aug. 28, 1993, by a drunk driver while walking on U.S. Route 1. A walking path has since been constructed to provide community members with a safe place to walk.

With the 21st anniversary of Condon's death approaching, the garden has been renovated and will be rededicated in her name on Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. The renovations to the garden include the addition of new nectar-rich plants and shrubs to attract butterflies.

Members of the public are invited to release painted lady butterflies that are available for $9 and must be reserved at Town Hall prior to the event. They can be picked up the day of the rededication. Condon's family will be releasing Monarch butterflies.
