Jean M. Field, 78: Maine native, loved to sing

SOUTH PORTLAND — Jean Marie Field, 78, of South Portland, died Oct. 10, at Mercy Hospital.

She was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Portland, the daughter of John and Jeannette A. Chasse Morrison. She was a graduate of South Portland High School.

She married James Donald Field on July 2, 1955, at Holy Cross Church, and began raising her family.

Field lived in South Carolina for 22 years, and worked there as a store manager for 7-11 from 1976-1988. She moved back to Maine in 1994.

She was a member of the Sweet Adelines singing group. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She was also a former president of J.C. Wives. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Las Vegas, San Diego and England.

Field was loved by all who knew her. Her beautiful and radiant smile could light up any room and her loving heart was always ready to offer comfort and affection. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who possessed the ability to make everyone feel loved and valued. Her warm embrace, wonderful sense of humor and unconditional love will be profoundly missed.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, James, in 1993; and brother, Kenneth Morrison.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Field, of Portland and Diane Scott, of Westbrook; three sons, Jeffrey Field, of Kansas, Christopher Field and wife Norma, of Adams Run, S.C., and Gregory Field, of Edisto Island, S.C.; two brothers, Richard Morrison and wife Carmella, of Cape Elizabeth, and Frank Morrison and wife Martha, of Rangeley; sister-in-law, Barbara Morrison, of Norwood, Mass.; and five grandchildren.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial Oct. 16, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Scarborough. Burial will be in South Carolina at a later date.
