Elizabeth M. Hersey, 66
PORTLAND — Elizabeth M. Hersey, 66, of Portland, died Aug. 26 at Maine Medical Center, after a short illness.
She was born Oct. 21, 1946, in Portland, the daughter of George and Dorothy Morton. She grew up in Portland, attending Portland schools. She really enjoyed spending time on the water of Casco Bay, where her father was a local fisherman and lobsterman.
Hersey was an energetic and independent person. She worked hard to support her two sons, while living on Munjoy Hill in Portland. She enjoyed types of work where she could interact with people, whether being a bartender for the American Legion Post No. 161, a dispatcher for the Portland Police Department or answering phones for a local answering service.
She was truly a people person. If there was going to be a party, Hersey wanted to be there. She was devoted to her family, enjoying the many cookouts and camping trips.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Erndale, Albion, Lance and Thomas; and her sisters, Dot, Geneva and Adelaide.
She is survived by her sons, George Palmer and his wife, Linda, of Old Orchard Beach, and Philip Palmer, and his wife, Sherry, of Gray; grandchildren Kristin, Jina, Darcie, Deanna, Dustin, Barbara, Philip Jr. and Tyler; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside committal service was held Aug. 30 at the Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
