Brunswick hockey ousted in semifinals
After a late season surge to make the playoffs and a stirring quarterfinal round victory, the end of the line came emphatically for the Brunswick boys' hockey team Saturday afternoon at the Colisee in Lewiston.
The Dragons, who won their final four regular season games to wind up 10-7-1 and fifth in Eastern A before edging No. 4 Cony, 3-2, in double overtime of last week's quarterfinals, had the daunting task of facing top-ranked, perennial powerhouse Lewiston, on its home ice, in the semifinal round.
It took the Blue Devils all of 19 seconds to grab the lead and they never looked back, scoring three more goals in the first period, three in the second and three in the third to roll to a 10-0 victory.
Brunswick, which was outshot, 46-8, finished the season 11-8-1.
Lewiston went on to face Bangor in the Eastern A Final Tuesday, at the Colisee.
The Class A state final is Saturday at 6 p.m., at the Colisee. Falmouth and Scarborough were the last teams standing in the west.
