Deneige Marie Pompeo, 98

PORTLAND — Deneige Marie Pompeo, 98, of Portland, died Feb. 11 after a short illness.

She was born Jan. 13, 1915, in Westbrook to Medric and Roseanne Harvey. She grew up in Westbrook with three brothers and one sister, attending Westbrook schools.

In June, 1942 she married Peter J. Pompeo, and settled into their house on Presumpscot Street in Portland, where she would live for the next 70 years. The couple raised their three children, Peter, Anne Marie and Bobby in the home and her door was always open to any friend of her children.

In her 40s, when her children had grown, she began working at W.T. Grant at the Pinetree Shopping Center and when her husband died at a young age in 1965, she stepped up to support the family.

She was a strong lady and never complained, the only side that showed was her kindness to everyone around her.

In her 70s, while vacationing in Florida, she bought a house there and for 12 years looked forward to spending winters in the sun.

She is predeceased by her three brothers, Romeo, Adrian and Valdor, along with her sister, Delores. She is survived by her sons, Peter "Buster" Pompeo, of Portland, and Robert "Bobby" Pompeo, of Cumberland; her daughter, Ann Marie Guevin, of Westbrook; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn O’Brien, of Buxton, and her son-in-law, Ronald Guevin, of Portland. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Portland with interment at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.

The family would like to give thanks to the staff on Two North of the Barron Center for their wonderful care that they gave to Pompeo during her stay there.
