Leo P. Albert Sr., 92

SCARBOROUGH — Leo P. Albert Sr., 92, of Scarborough, died Monday in Portland.

He was born in Limestone to Eugene C. and Marie Z. Bois Albert.

He graduated Cheverus High School in 1939, and soon afterward elisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the European theater of operations during World War II and reenlisted after the war. He eventually served 22 years in the Army as a recruiter and dental technician. 

In 1948, Albert married Alma C. McInnis, and together they had six children. 

In the early 1960s Albert returned to Maine, working briefly with the U.S. Postal Service and then with the Central Maine Power Company, where he worked until his retirement.

In 1982 Albert married Ann S. Hazard in Farmington.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreigns Wars and American Legion posts in the Augusta area. During his retirement he and his wife Ann enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. He enjoyed playing Scrabble and card games. He and Ann enjoyed spending time with their many friends and family.

Albert was predeceased by his parents, his former wife Alma, six sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include four daughters, Sharon Mallar of Sanford, Theresa Ann Scott of Indianapolis, Ind., Mary Rose Jackson of Winthrop, Louella Jean Madden of Leesburg, Fla.; two sons, Leo P. Albert, Jr. of Old Orchard Beach, and John E. Albert of Hiram; a step-daughter, Judy Baltos and husband Stephen of Portland, a step-son, Paul Michael of Waterville; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service with military rites at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
