Triumphant season for Yarmouth MS football

The Yarmouth Middle School football team came light years this fall. Starting with just nine players, the program was in jeopardy of even fielding a squad, but Yarmouth made the most of its numbers (which eventually reached 18) and enjoyed a very successful season. Joe Ingalls, a 33-year coaching veteran, 70-year-old offensive coach Lou Vellone, defensive coach Bob Irving and former Clipper Dennis Irving invested their time in making the most of the season. Considering the obstacles, Yarmouth’s Middle School had a very successful season, finishing 4-3 after a 7-6 win over rival Freeport in the fourth annual "Battle of the Bay."

“With our season ending 4-3 record in the record books, our players are proud of themselves, have learned and played with enthusiasm and we are proud of them. They now call themselves the 'Tough 18,'" said Ingalls. “We coach as a team, we learn as a team, we play as a team and we succeed as a team. Win or lose, we all succeed by learning.”
