Scott Alan McNeill, 56

BRUNSWICK — Scott Alan McNeill, 56, died Aug. 31 after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born in Bath on Nov. 22, 1955, to the late Gerald P. McNeill and Marlene (Christopher) McNeill.

McNeill graduated from Morse High School, class of 1974. In August that year, he entered the U.S. Navy and served on oceanographic ships and nuclear submarines. He often spoke about memories of Israel, Italy and other Mediterranean ports of call.

He left military service in 1981 and settled in Bath. There, he worked at Bath Iron Works, Casco Cable TV and Gediman’s Appliance. Afterwards, he became a rural carrier for the Brunswick Post Office.

On May 18, 1996, McNeill married his high school sweetheart, Susan (DiEdwardo) McNeill. McNeill loved spending time with his son, Jeremiah, teaching him an appreciation for sports, fishing, and gardening. McNeill supervised as Jeremiah planted his first garden this July. The father and son could always be found cheering for the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics or Bruins on game days. McNeill had a passion for the great outdoors and his motorcycle.

McNeill was a member of the American Legion in Bath and the American Fishing Club.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; his son, Jeremiah; stepdaughter Melissa Gray and her husband, Bob, of Washington; stepdaughter Allisyn Gray and her husband, Jared, of Brunswick; his mother, Marlene McNeill, of Bath; sister, Jerilene Chessman, of Bath; brothers Shawn McNeill and Larry McNeill, of Bath; nephews Cory, Elyah and Jake; nieces Jacelyn, Amaya, Kiera and Janet Rezendes; uncle Brad Christopher and his wife, Judy, of New Hampshire; uncle Neil Christopher and his wife, Gail, of Connecticut; and aunt Nani Hiedt and her husband, Paul, of New York.

A funeral service was held Sept. 6 at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home in Bath.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to the Maine Chapter of the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
