Harold E. Richards, 64: Former Portland City Hall employee of the year

PORTLAND — Harold E. Richards, 64, died April 10 surrounded by family after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Portland on May 17, 1944, son of Marguerite E. (Nickerson) Richards Bowden and Arnold Richards Sr.

He was raised by his mother and John Bowen and attended local schools in Portland.

He worked for the City of Portland for 12 years and was named "City Hall Employee of the Year," several years ago. He retired in 2000 due to a disability. Formerly, he owned and operated Marjohn's Consignment Shop.

In his spare time, he was involved with several organizations, including serving as a board member of the Saccrapa Grange. When he was healthy, he enjoyed traveling. He also enjoyed watching golf and collecting Thomas Kincaid artwork.

He was predeceased by his mother Marguerite Bowen, his dad John Bowden, a brother, Arnold "Dicky" Richards, and a sister-in-law, Sue Tracy.

He is survived by his brother, Randolph "Randy" Bowden of Portland, and sister, Linda (Bowden) Kelley and her husband Joel of South Portland; nieces, Patricia (Tracy) Moore and her husband David of Portland, Laura (Kelley) Hubbard and her husband Todd of South Portland their children, Shaylee and Chase, and Michelle Richards, and nephews, William Richards and Archie Richards, both of Buxton.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on April 15.

Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland.
