Mid-Coast nonprofits receive $25K in grants

BRUNSWICK — Five local nonprofit organizations received a total of $25,000 in grants from a philanthropic group this week.

At Curtis Memorial Library on Wednesday, the Maine Women's Giving Tree presented $5,000 grants to Family Focus, the Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program, Tedford Housing, the Brunswick Teen Center, and Women, Work and Community, a statewide education and economic development organization.

"Our grants this year focus on providing children with the healthy meals they need to grow, and on helping women and young people learn new ways to gain greater independence and self-sufficiency," said MWGT co-founder Sandra Neiman. "Nothing could be more important to Maine’s families."

Judy Woodman, MWGT's other co-founder, said this year's grants increased by $10,000 from last year's total due to an increase in membership.

"We urge other women to join us in our mission to help support the needs of women, children and families in our region," Woodman said.
