Frances B. Fowler, 95
BRUNSWICK — Frances B. Fowler, 95, of Garden Lane, died Aug. 13 at Parkview Adventist Medical Center.
Fowler was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Melrose, Massachusetts, the daughter of John T. and Beatrice Heyer Baillie.
She attended local schools and graduated from Melrose High School. She went on to complete courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Harvard Extension School and the American Institute of Banking, while working for Shawmut Bank in Boston. There, she worked her way up to the position of department head.
On June 25, 1949, she married Walter I. Fowler Jr., and the couple raised three sons together. She then returned to work, first as an assistant librarian at Berwick Academy in South Berwick, then as a librarian for 23 years at the Hyde School in Bath.
After retirement, Fowler volunteered at Mid Coast Hospital and with the Brunswick Town Voting Commission. She enjoyed an exercise program, Running Start, at Bowdoin College. With her husband, she also enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, as well as camping. She also loved to work around her home, especially gardening, even up to the age of 93.
Besides her husband, Walter, who died in 1994, she was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Pinkham.
Fowler is survived by three sons, Steven, of Richmond, James, of Portland, and David and wife, Petra, of Rochester, New Hampshire; two grandsons, Christopher and Eric, both of Richmond; and a granddaughter, Lauren, of Matthews, North Carolina.
A memorial service was held Aug. 20 at Stetson’s Funeral Home in Brunswick, followed by a reception.
