First day practice schedules

The fall sports preseason begins Monday. At North Yarmouth Academy, practice for boys' soccer, girls' soccer and volleyball is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cross country goes from 9 to 11 a.m. Field hockey practices from 3 to 6 p.m. All practices are on campus. Golf practices from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Toddy Brook. At Freeport, football meets from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Pownal Road Field. Boys' soccer meets at its field from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Girls' soccer goes from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., on the soccer field. Field hockey meets at its field from 8 to 11 a.m. Cross country goes from 5 to 6:30 p.m., meeting on the front lawn. Golf meets at 3:30 p.m., at Freeport Country Club. Cheering meets in the cafe from 4 to 6 p.m.

Falmouth girls' hoops coach inducted into Albany Hall of Fame

Falmouth girls' basketball coach Mari Warner will be inducted in to the University at Albany Athletics Hall of Fame next month. Warneris the school’s all-time leader in women’s basketball coaching victories, compiling a 299-213 record in her 20-year career. One of the nation’s youngest head coaches when she was appointed to the position in 1982, UAlbany posted winning records in 12 of 13 seasons as a Division III program under her direction and reached the NCAA tournament twice. In Division II, Warner’s best team was the 1996-97 squad that finished 19-9 overall and advanced to the New England Collegiate Conference championship.

NYA coaching openings

North Yarmouth Academy has several coaching vacancies for the upcoming school year. At the Upper School, there are openings for junior varsity boys' basketball, JV boys' prep hockey and JV girls' prep hockey. The Middle School is seeking grades 6/7/8 field hockey, boys' and girls' soccer and basketball/volleyball coaches. FMI, 847-5456 or jhardy@nya.org.

Maine Basketball Hall of Fame induction upcoming

The inaugural Maine Basketball Hall of Fame will be inducted Thursday, Aug. 21 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. The Hall will honor 22 individuals and one team. Dinner is served from 4 to 5:30 p.m. with the induction following. FMI, 942-6389 or mainebasketballhalloffame.com.
