Local Masters swimmers post top 10 times

Four local swimmers posted top 10 U.S. Masters times for the 2013-14 indoor season. Sprint specialist Katrine Alcaide from Harpswell (right) topped the national rankings in two events, the 50- and 100-yard freestyles for women in the 30-34 age division. She also placed second in the 50 breaststroke, third in the 100 breast, fifth in the 50 butterfly. and sixth in the 100 medley. Dave Bright (left), of Brunswick, notched four top 10 swims among men 60-64: seventh in the 200 butterfly, eighth in the 400 medley, ninth in the 200 back and 10th in the 200 medley.

Phippsburg’s Ronnie Kamphasuen (left), in her 80-84 age group debut, placed in the top 10 in 12 events. Ronnie captured the national number one spot in the 200-, 400- and 100-yard freestyles, 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley. Brunswick's David Vail (70-74) showed had nine top 10 listings, headed by three fifth-place rankings: the 1,650-yard freestyle and the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes. In metric competition, Vail established six new all-time Colonies Zone records for his age group: 100 and 400 meter freestyle, 100 backstroke, 50 butterfly and 100 and 200 IM. The Colonies Zone spans the East Coast from Maine to Virginia.
