Bath library offers college applicants pizza, pity

BATH — Patten Free Library will host its second annual "Pizza Pity Party" from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12.

But the point of the gathering is not just to down cheese-laden slices, but for this fall's high school seniors to learn about the college application process.

"We had a great participation in this workshop last year when we offered it for the first time," Roberta Jordan, outreach and instruction librarian, said in a Patten press release. "I think everyone who came felt like they got a great jump start on the Common Application thanks to Leslie Trundy of Morse High School, who leads the workshop. We also offer free pizza to make the reality of the college application process a little less painful."

The workshop, to be held in the library's Community Room, is free and available to any high school senior, and pre-registration – which opens Friday, Aug. 1 – is required so that an accurate head count for pizza can be made.

Area college counselors will be at the workshop to aid students in learning about the about the Common Application website, and to begin creating a powerful personal profile.

Participating students should bring their own laptop or tablet computers, since only a limited number of library laptops will be available. Students can register by emailing rjordan@patten.lib.me.us or calling 443-5141, ext. 25. The registrant's full name, contact information (via email or phone), and whether a parent will attend, should be included.
