Cars and trucks head southbound across the new Martin's Point Bridge around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, June 13. Under construction for nearly two years, the span over the Presumpscot River between Portland and U.S. Route 1 in Falmouth is now open to vehicular traffic. Final work is expected to be completed in about one month. As the finishing touches are made, there will be some delays and lane closures, but fewer than in recent weeks, project spokeswoman Carol Morris said in a news release. The $24 million bridge replaces a deteriorating structure more than 70 years old.
